Job Summary:
A Parent Partner is an individual who has been involved with child welfare, child in need of protection or services, juvenile courts and alcohol and other drugs’ systems. They have been successful at navigating those systems, have come to terms with their past involvement and continue to be successful in their recovery. The Parent Partner is responsible for mentoring parents currently involved with child welfare and/or other systems. The Parent Partner will provide advocacy, support and referral services to participants. Parent Partners have a willingness and genuine interest in sharing their experiences, expertise and wisdom to help other parents succeed and to educate the parents, those working in the systems and members of the community. Parent Partners are committed to help keep the youth safe. Provide neutral parent support to parents in our Family Wrap (CWS) programs. Work closely with assigned children’s parent/caregivers to present their best interest. Assists parents in developing positive problem solving skills. Models appropriate behavioral interventions. Accompany parents to important meetings (i.e., court proceedings). Assists in providing field contacts and ensures participant’s access to services; assists parents and caretakers in linking to community services. Provides guidance to parents and caregivers to help them manage existing resources and access needed resources. Develops and maintains positive, supportive relationships with parents and acts as a liaison between participants and community resources. Further parent engagement in the Wrap process. Participate in Wrap meetings and/or other meetings and trainings as deemed appropriate. Responsible for recording in meetings, when needed. Responsible for occasionally providing childcare, when necessary. General office work as needed (filing, phone calls, database work, faxing and typing).
Minimum Requirements:
Must have personal experience as a parent with a child who has been in the Child Welfare System preferred. Prepared to use that lived experience in helping other parents currently navigating the system(s). First-hand experience dealing with child welfare, including behavioral mental health, special education, and/or recovery system is required. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year related experience and/or training. Must have the ability to manage time well and work independently. Prior parent advocacy experience desirable. Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook. Must maintain an ethical, responsible and professional attitude and demeanor under all circumstances at all times. Team player with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization. Committed to quality and performance improvement. Successful criminal and child abuse and neglect background clearance as required by state regulations for those who work with children and families in the Child Welfare System; or successful waiver of these requirements by Child Welfare System. Valid driver’s license, no-fault automobile insurance, acceptable motor vehicle abstract, and access to an insured, reliable vehicle is needed. Must be available to travel to various sites for purchase and delivery of flex fund items, training, and to build and maintain effective relationships with the families we serve and community-based resources.
