EPIC ‘Ohana Strategic Plan & Guidebook
As EPIC ʻOhana looks ahead into the next three years, we center on our hopes and dreams as an organization and hold tight to one another as a strong ʻohana in order to serve our community in meaningful ways. This strategic plan will serve as the roadmap for our journey, helping to direct our decisions, our new projects and programs, and the kind of growth we desire.

In 2013, EPIC ʻOhana produced a “manual” as part of its participation in a federal grant project on the efficacy of family engagement. Instead of writing about the mechanics of the process, we chose to write about the values, which are influenced by Hawaiian cultural values, that inform our work. That manual has been recognized by national leaders in the field of child welfare, inspired statewide trainings in Child Welfare Services (CWS), and has provided an orientation to the heart and soul of EPIC for our new and existing employees. It has been an invaluable tool in deepening the conversation of how to effectively help and preserve families who are involved with CWS.
This guidebook is both a revision and expansion of that original manual. We have chosen to call it a “guidebook” instead of “manual” in hopes it will accomplish two things: 1) to serve as a guide to help readers understand EPIC’s history and its various programs, and 2) to articulate what truly guides EPIC in its important work.
