Job Summary:
The Family First Hawai‘i (FFH) Navigator helps provide community connection and flex fund support for the family and Parent Partner to ensure meaningful interactions and supports are accessible for families navigating Child Welfare Services system and `Ohana Conferencing. Responsible for thorough, compassionate, ethical, efficient, and professional in-person and/or telephone contacts to support family next steps. The Navigator provides continued support to the Parent Partner throughout the duration of involvement. Responsible for communication with Parent Partners about family needs. The Navigator initiates, tracks, and finalizes all flex fund requests including purchase of flex fund items, delivery of items, and collection of documentation. Responsibilities include consulting with the Facilitator, Parent Partner, and/or family regarding concrete next steps. Follows-up on tasks assigned and identifies any barriers or concerns. The Navigator will build effective connections with community partners and will maintain active awareness of community resources in the community a family identifies as their own. Responsible for researching community resources and building relationships to ensure family access to resources. Housing pathways navigation is included in resource learning and connecting. Responsible for providing information and resources and Warm Line and Parent Partners. Additionally, training and sharing of resource information with colleagues in the EPIC `Ohana agency as appropriate. Responsible for working in a collaborative environment, with a team of Family Members, Peer Supports, Facilitators, Navigators, Recorders, Administrative Staff, `Ohana Conference Trainer, Field Staff Supervisor, `Ohana Conference and Wrap Managers in a shared effort to engage the family, youth, and providers. Collaborate as needed with all other programs statewide. Responsible for timely preparation of calls, documentation, and database input as needed. Appropriately seek peer mentoring as needed from Wrap Navigators as well as daily supervision, mentoring, and coaching, from the Wrap Manager.
Minimum Requirements:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning and/or a minimum of one (1) year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must maintain an ethical, responsible and professional attitude and demeanor under all circumstances in person, by phone, e-mail and correspondence, in order to effectively and efficiently engage and maintain working relationships with families, professionals and who are undergoing complex and crisis situations. Individual with experience working with families whose children have been harmed or threatened with harm and in facilitation and/or mediation, preferred. Individual with culturally relevant training and/or experience specific to the community served, preferred. Demonstrated a high degree of professionalism and maturity. Committed to quality and performance improvement. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in person and on the phone are required for this position. Must be proficient with computer use, including word processing, spreadsheets, map reading, email, and database usage. Successful criminal and child abuse and neglect background clearance as required by state regulations for those who work with children and families in the Child Welfare System. Current First Aid and CPR certification, training will be provided. Valid driver’s license, no-fault automobile insurance, acceptable motor vehicle abstract, and access to an insured, reliable vehicle is needed. Must be available to travel to various sites for purchase and delivery of flex fund items and to build and maintain effective relationships with community-based resources.
